Image of how shapes explain the proximity effect

Definition:

Proximity is a Gestalt principle which states that the relative distance between objects influences our perception of whether and how the items are organised into sub-groups. This means that if a number of assets on a page are located close to each other people have a tendency to perceive them to be part of the same grouping.
